How to Download Instagram Reels in HD (2026 Guide)

Updated August 13, 2026

Reels are the format people most want to save and the one Instagram makes hardest to keep. There is no download button, the in-app “Save” just bookmarks the post inside Instagram, and screen recording gives you a soft, oversized file with the interface baked in. This guide shows the clean way to pull a Reel as an HD MP4 — with its original audio — on every device.

The quick method

  1. Open the Reel in the Instagram app or on the web.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu and choose Copy link.
  3. Paste the link into our Instagram video downloader.
  4. Press Download, pick the HD option, and save the MP4.

The downloader returns the file Instagram hosts, so the Reel comes back at its source resolution with the original audio intact and no watermark added on top.

Getting the Reel link on each device

On a phone, open the Reel, tap the three dots in the bottom-right (or the paper-plane share icon), and choose Copy link. On a computer, open the Reel on instagram.com and copy the URL from the address bar. Both point to the same public page, so either works.

Saving on iPhone vs Android

On iPhone, iOS usually previews the MP4 in a new Safari tab. Tap the share icon and choose Save to Files, or long-press the video and pick Save to drop it into Photos. On Android, the file goes straight to your Downloads folder and appears in the Gallery within seconds — allow save permission once if your browser asks.

Keeping quality and audio intact

Because you are downloading a source file rather than a screen capture, the Reel keeps its original resolution and its synced audio — including any trending sound the creator used. The ceiling rule still applies: the download can only be as sharp as the file the creator uploaded, so a Reel shot in 720p saves in 720p. No tool can genuinely upscale it to 4K.

A word on trending audio

Reels often ride a licensed song or a creator’s original sound. Saving a Reel for personal reference is fine, but reposting it — especially with that audio — on another platform can run into both copyright on the music and the creator’s own rights. If you plan to reshare, credit the creator and, for the audio, use a properly licensed track instead.

Do it responsibly

Download your own Reels freely, and save others’ Reels for personal use with credit. Don’t repackage someone else’s Reel as your own or use it commercially without permission. Our disclaimer spells out where the line is.

The short version

Copy the Reel link, paste it into the Instagram downloader, and save the HD MP4. For other Instagram formats, see our full guide to downloading Instagram videos.

Save the Pin before it disappears

Pins get deleted and boards get archived. Grab a clean copy of the videos and images you love in a couple of taps.
